When we are not exploring the city through our morning seminars, the group’s days have been filled to the brim with cultural immersion activities — both here in Barcelona and beyond. We’ve visited a local chocolateria for famous churros con chocolate; took a yoga class with director extraordinaire, Sky; navigated the winding cobblestone streets of the barrio gotico to find hidden boutiques and cafes; visited Gaudí’s world-renowned masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, still under construction after a century; and saw the giant fountain light show on Montjuic. Our amazing Travel Photography instructor, Leo, even had a lesson on phone photography — teaching us all the pro tips for documenting our adventures on-the-go.
The group has been super active as well — We trekked up to the Montjuic Castle and learned about the beautiful structure’s dark history, and even had our own version of beach olympics in celebration of Barcelona’s 25th anniversary of hosting the Olympic Games.
Yesterday, our cultural exploration adventures took us on a day excursion to Figueres and Cadaqués, where we further explored the northern coast, and the life and work of surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. Our first stop — Figueres, home to the Dalí museum. Here we wandered through the floors of Dalí’s work, examining paintings, drawings, and sculptures from new perspectives. After a break for lunch in town, we then headed to Cadaqués — a small fishing village where Dalí lived with his wife, and where most of his work was created, from 1930 to 1982. After our visit we still have some time to relax on the beach, swim, and buy a few souvenirs for our family and friends back home.
We can’t believe we’re over halfway through our trip, and are excited to make the most of our last few days together. Stay tuned!
