Over the past few days we have been diving into our Spanish Language & Culture, Art & Architecture, and Travel Photography seminars with gusto. Our Spanish Language & Culture group has started branching out to practice our Spanish with locals — breaking into teams and to complete an Amazing Race of different tasks around our barrio. Today, we visited the Caxia Forum on Montjuic and discussed the various photography exhibits en espanol. It’s been a busy first few days!
Art & Architecture started off with the foundational “firsts” of the city — discovering some of the oldest roman ruins in Barcelona, and investigating the remains of a Roman villa. With a solid foundation, we then headed to the Fundacio Miro for a contemporary angle on art in the city.
Travel Photography has been busy as well documenting local life. We visited a local skate park to practice our action shots and familiarize ourselves with our gear; wandered through the twisting cobblestone streets of the barrio gotico to the Barcelona Cathedral; and practiced portraiture with vendors and patrons at the famous Boqueria market.
Afternoons have been packed with Cultural Immersion Activities — biking along the beach and through Parc de la Ciutadella, visiting the Maritime Museum, taking a tour of Futbol Club Barcelona’s famous Camp Nou, and swimming at the Montjuic pool with a gorgeous view of the entire city. In the evenings, we’ve had a dinner beach picnic, and also our first Cultural Night. Splitting into small groups, we watched Capitan Fantastic at the outdoor cinema on Montjuic, were mesmerized by a guitar trio at the breathtaking Palau de la Musica, soaked up jazz in the park, and enjoyed our first Flamenco show. We can’t stop falling in love with Barcelona!
Hasta pronto!
